History of MVHS
1976-Present
1976
The Middletown Valley Historical Society was founded in 1976 to promote the understanding and appreciation of the rich history of the Middletown Valley
2020
The onset of COVID-19 and the aging of its officers and directors caused the Society to cease its meetings, monthly public lectures, participation in local events, and periodic openings of its historic home.
2024
In the Spring of 2024, the two remaining members of the Board of Directors asked the editor of “Neighbors of Middletown” if the magazine would run an article aimed at determining if there was interest in the community in bringing the Society back into operation. The response was gratifying. By the autumn of 2024 a new, enthusiastic Board of Directors had been formed. The first order of business was developing a plan to bring the Society back to life. This included a top to bottom review of the Society’s finances, resources, and programs. As a result, the new Board is taking action to make needed repairs to the Society’s historic home, develop a plan to display its artifacts, reorganize its library, and begin holding regular public meetings and programs.
2025
The upcoming program at the Middletown Library – a talk on the National Road in Maryland – is aimed at reintroducing the Middletown Valley Historical Society to the local community and making clear that it is back in business!
